5 things to know for 3/3-3/9

Published on: March 3rd, 2017

1) Mardi Gras is over (check out the photo highlights) and we're quickly heading towards festival season! YLC's Wednesday at the Square announced their lineup last week. Irma Thomas will open this free weekly concert series at Lafayette Square on March 15. French Quarter Fest is happening April 6-9 and Jazz Fest starts April 28.

2) After a couple weeks off for Mardi Gras, the social aid and pleasure clubs are back in the streets this weekend. VIP Ladies & Kids step out on Sunday, March 5 at 12:45p. Get the route sheet from WWOZ's Takin' It To The Streets

3) Indians a-comin'! The suits debuted on Mardi Gras were spectacular. See them again at Uptown Super Sunday and St. Joseph's Night. Both events will be held Sunday, March 19, as per the Mardi Gras Indian Council. More info available here.

4) Applications for Class Got Brass and Community Outreach Tickets to Jazz Fest 2017 are both due Monday, March 6!

5) Special shoutout to Tank & the Bangas, winners of this year's NPR Tiny Desk Contest! On Mardi Gras morning, NPR announced that the group beat out over 6,000 other entries to win the competition. Their winning entry is below. For more on this distinctive group, check out the upcoming WWOZ feature Closeup: Tank & the Bangas.
