WWOZ Tricentennial Music Moments: The Rex Anthem, "If Ever I Cease To Love"

In honor of New Orleans' celebration of its 300th anniversary, we've launched a series of on-air and online Tricentennial Music Moments focusing on the stories and people who've shaped the Crescent City. In the first installment, narrated by Mad Men actor Bryan Batt, we look at the story behind the Rex anthem, "If Ever I Cease To Love," which involves an English comedian, a Russian Grand Duke, and an American showgirl.

Carnival 2018 Gets Underway

Carnival 2018 gets underway with a full evening of activities this Saturday. Following traditional Twelfth Night favorites like the Krewe de Jeanne d'Arc parade in the French Quarter, the Phunny Phorty Phellows streetcar ride Uptown, and the new the Société des Champs Elysée ride down North Rampart, there'll be a fireworks display over the river at Jackson Square in celebration of the city's tricentennial.

Remembering Those We Lost in 2017

We'd like to take a moment to remember those who passed away during the last year: the New Orleans music and cultural communities lost a number of talented and influential individuals in 2017. During their lives, their dedication made New Orleans a richer place. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends.

Tarte Tatin

Recipe: Tarte Tatin with Pears & Apples

This is a version of a classic French recipe. Its filling develops amazing depth of flavor, considering the only ingredients are butter, sugar, and fruit. You can use all apples, all pears, or a combination of the two. A rustic winter dessert, it's a great change from basic apple pie, and perfect when you feel like you couldn't possibly eat another bite of King Cake.
