The premier art museum in the Gulf South and the city's oldest fine arts institution, the New Orleans Museum of Art continues to exhibit, interpret and preserve works of art from ancient to modern times. Its permanent collection is noted for its extraordinary strengths in French and American art, photography, glass, African and Japanese works. NOMA has also developed a unique Arts of the Americas collection, surveying the cultural heritage of North, Central and South America from the pre-Columbian period through the Spanish Colonial era.

Upcoming Shows

Narrative 4 (N4), in partnership with the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) Arts and Letters series, presents an extraordinary night of music and literature. The event features National Book Award-winning Irish author Colum McCann, former Poet Laureate of Louisiana Darrell Bourque, from Utah Sierra Club John Muir Awardee Terry Tempest Williams, from Sierra Leone New York Times bestselling author Ishmael Beah, Persian, Paris-based author Lila Azam Zanganeh, from New York PEN Awardee Rob Spillman, and England-based novelist Ruth Gilligan. Each author will read a short excerpt from his or her work, which will be accompanied by a musical composition created to match the piece and geographic region each author represents. Legendary zydeco superstar Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes will compose the pieces and will be joined onstage by Colm Mac Con Iomaire, famed violinist from the Irish band “The Frames.”
