Website Redesign — April 2007

Why did we redesign the website?

Over the last few years, the site has undergone a series of rapid changes. We wanted to put down a new foundation that can support new features and technologies. Help us plan the next steps for WWOZ.org by giving us your feedback.

After the flooding from Katrina, the website grew in many unexpected and positive ways. There are many new features that we want to incorporate into the website, but we needed a stronger platform before we could start building these new features. The new look and the new organization of the site’s content are the first steps towards building this stronger platform. We are in the process of making many changes to our backend system.

We plan to release new features and updates to the website 2-3 times a year. We will be launching a set of new features this summer including Community Forums (message boards), search, improved database searches of our playlists and music listings, community notebook calendar and others.

We want your feedback as we continue to improve all aspects of the website. Please email us at feedback@wwoz.org with your feedback for improvements or new features. This is your website!!

What’s new in each section?

Here is a mini-tour of the new sections on the website.

QUICK LINKS

This section is just below the listen online button in the top right corner of the every page. These are links to are most popular pages, so you can go directly to them at any point.

ON THE AIR

Go to this section to find tools and information about WWOZ’s radio programming. Some of the changes include:

Playlists:
We have separated out the playlist page from the host listings page so that we can add new playlist functionality to the site over the next year or so, including enhanced playlist search capability, archived audio streams of the playlists, and show host generated comments, images, links, videos, etc. embedded directly within the playlists.

Program Schedule:
We have organized the Program Schedule into a grid so you can quickly find the shows and show hosts that you’re looking for.

Live Broadcasts:
This brand new section will list our upcoming live broadcasts so you can be sure to tune in. Over time this section will expand with archives of our live broadcasts including streaming audio files, photos, videos and more.

CD Compilations:
This new page gives you more details about our WWOZ CDs for members that are compiled from our live audio recordings.

OUR COMMUNITY

Go to this section to look for anything to do with New Orleans, i.e. live music listings, cultural news, upcoming events, resources for local musicians, etc. This is also where you should go to connect with the WWOZ community.

Street Talk:
This cultural news service now has its own section on the site, and we will continue to enhance Street Talk over the next year.

General Manager’s Blog:
WWOZ’s GM, David Freedman, has started a blog where he’ll post materials about the changing cultural landscape of New Orleans, new media and many other issues that affect the big picture for WWOZ.

Jazz Fest Personalized Schedules:
Our Jazz Fest page now includes a feature for you to create your own customized Jazz Fest schedules. You can email these to friends and experience Jazz Fest in a whole new way.

Jazz Fest:
The Jazz Fest page also includes a section on special events happening during Jazz Fest as well as information on Brass Passes and Piano Night.

Jazz Fest DJ Blog:
Our show hosts will share their Jazz Fest experiences directly with you throughout the Fest.

'OZone:
We have a section for the 'OZone email newsletter so if you had trouble reading the newsletter in your email, or if you want to look up an archived newsletter, then you can go to this page.

The OUR COMMUNITY section will continue to grow when we introduce our Community Forums (message boards), our community notebook, a new section on WWOZ local, national and international partnerships and a lot more.

ABOUT WWOZ

These pages contain all the facts about WWOZ including history, contact us, staff listing, governance board, privacy policy, site terms and help pages.

Why don’t my bookmarks work?

There are many new pages in the new website and some of the previous pages were organized differently within the navigation. If you have the site or its pages bookmarked, you’ll need to reset your bookmarks. The few moments to reset your bookmarks will be well worth the effort!

Please email us at feedback@wwoz.org to share your thoughts about this new site and what features you would like to see for the future. THANK YOU!!

We want to thank all of the people who put together the new website including Troy Thibodeaux (programming), Trent Oubre (graphic user interface design), Larissa Rachel (web production), Sarah Thibodeaux (web production), Tierney DeCuir (data entry & Q/A), Robyn Loda (copy writing), Jacques Morial (copy writing) and Ariana Hall (project manager).
