Guardians Institute and Mardi Gras Indian Hall of Fame will celebrate Big Chief Donald Harrison, Sr. on Saturday, January 28. The program will include a cultural presentation by the Young Guardians of the Flame and a special tribute by Maroon Queen Reesie.
Attendees will be able to tour the Donald Harrison, Sr. Museum from 1:00 – 1:30. The museum collection includes; archival photos, original beaded artwork, paintings by Karen Ocker and Ronald Romanski, ceremonial attire by Big Chief Donald Harrison, Jr. of Congo Square Nation Afro New Orleans, Queen Reesie and the late Donald Harrison, Sr. of the Guardians of the Flame Maroon Society and other artifacts.
Attendees will sing-along to an original birthday song to honor the memory of Big Chief Donald Harrison, Sr. The event will conclude with adult and youth attendees sharing birthday cake and receiving the gift of a book courtesy of Guardians Institute and the Mardi Gras Indian Hall of Fame.
Queen Reesie of the Guardians of the Flame will serve as the facilitator of the day’s events.
