Celebrate Ernie K-Doe's Birthday February 22 with Rare Archived Shows

To celebrate Ernie K-Doe’s birthday on Saturday, February 22, we're scheduling a marathon of classic Ernie-K-Doe programs that originally aired on WWOZ in the 1980s. Many of Ernie's old shows have been copied on cassette and circulated among collectors, but these rare recordings will be digital copies mastered from the original reel-to-reel studio tapes, which have been preserved by the Archive of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, and have not been circulated. Tune is from 2 to 8p on February 22: it's a great way to spend the Saturday afternoon before Mardi Gras!

(Former) Show Host Spotlight: Jason Goodman

It’s always a treat when former volunteers visit WWOZ after many years. We were excited to spend time with former show host Jason Goodman, musician and avid record collector, during the second week of February. He alternated with The Doctor on Friday’s New Orleans Music Show during the mid-1990s and was known as "Jason G" while on air. Jason now shares his vast knowledge of blues and New Orleans music as a guest host with avid listeners on Melbourne, Australia’s community radio airwaves. We wish you continued success, Jason G. Thank you for all the good vibes!

Bloody Marys

Recipe: Bloody Marys by the Gallon

Occasions like Mardi Gras parades and music festivals seem to call for bloody marys. For your next such event, forgo the manufactured bloody mary mix and express yourself! It's worth the trouble if you're making a large batch, and there's a lot of room for culinary inspiration in bloody mary recipes.
