Alski

Show Host Profile: Alski

Show host Allan Laskey, AKA "Alski," is a passionate seeker of sound. After carefully researching and considering the idea of relocating from Philadelphia to New Orleans to become a WWOZ volunteer, he took the leap after hurricane Katrina and made the move. Once here, he helped bolster our depleted staff, first as a much-needed substitute show host, and soon thereafter with his own show. Enter the "Rhythm Room" on Friday nights (10p-MIDNIGHT), and you'll be captivated by his selection of R&B, blues, and soul music. He's also very knowledgeable about reggae, Caribbean and African music, and international jazz, as evidenced by his substitute appearances on other WWOZ shows. Thanks for what you do, Alski!

Shrimp Sauce Piquante

Shrimp Sauce Piquante.

Recipe: Shrimp Sauce Piquante

Sauce Piquante, with its distinct pepper flavor and heat, is a versatile component of many traditional Louisiana meat and fish dishes. Without too much looking, you can find versions featuring venison, snapping turtle, frog legs, quail, duck, and alligator. And then there are the more conventional versions, like chicken, redfish, and, as here, shrimp.
