Inspired by his Uncle Donald’s groundbreaking album Nouveau Swing, award-winning filmmaker, musician, and cultural leader Big Chief Brian Harrison Nelson has created a sound he calls “Nouveau Bounce.” Based in African drum rhythms and fused with New Orleans Bounce, traditional Masking Black Indian music, and contemporary jazz, Nouveau Bounce describes a new innovation in New Orleans’ musical identity. The Nouveau Bounce band will include an impressive stage show featuring African dancers, New Orleans dancers, a DJ, and African drumming.

The show will also feature an educational element, exploring the history and roots of Mardi Gras Indian culture and how it connects with the broader history of New Orleans’ musical culture through presentations by Maroon Queen Cherice Harrison-Nelson and our master of ceremonies Malik Bartholomew of "Know NOLA Tours".
