Now in its seventh year, The Historic New Orleans Collection’s Concerts in the Courtyard offers a fun, casual way to kick off the weekend with live outdoor performances by Louisiana musicians. The fall series continues Friday, Oct. 17, with a performance by the Original Pinettes Brass Band, the “world’s only all-female brass band.”

Formed in 1991 with alumnae of St. Mary’s Academy High School in New Orleans East, the Original Pinettes Brass Band started with 16 rotating members and has grown to include members from throughout the city. In 2013, the band won the Red Bull “Street Kings” Brass Band Blowout competition, crowning themselves the Red Bull “Street Queens” after beating three male ensembles.

The October event will feature performances from Dionne Harrison, Nicole Elwood and Demaris Holmes, trombone; Veronique Dorsey, Tylita Curtain and Jazz Henry, trumpet; Natasha Harris, saxophone; Janine Waters, tuba; and Christie Jourdain and Casandra French-King, drums.
