DETWEILER CLEMENT WHITAKER

Tuesday, May 21, 2019 - 8:00pm
Scott Detweiler will join forces with Paul Clement and Mark Whitaker for a trio performance on May 21 at Siberia Lounge. The they will perform material from Detweiler’s vast catalog of original works as well as his own funk-infused arrangements of music (both vocal and instrumental) by artists such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Kendrick Lamar, Herbie Hancock and Freddie King, to name a few. The New Orleans native studied music at Loyola (as a private guitar student of Bill Huntington) and UNO prior to studying as a private pupil in the home of Ellis Marsalis. In Los Angeles he studied with Henri Mancini and Earle Hagen. Detweiler’s style is a blend of funk, blues, jazz and soul. The award-winning composer/singer/guitarist is an energetic and compelling performer. In addition to writing for himself, he also writes music and lyrics for other artists (most recently, funk-band sensation Orgone) as well as music for film and tv soundtracks. Paul Clement, a former band mate of Detweiler’s who is a long-time member of Woodenhead, will be playing bass. Mark Whitaker, who also is a member of Woodenhead, will be on drums. This union of Detweiler, Clement and Whitaker promises to provide fertile ground for a night of intense grooves, superior improvisation and spontaneity on all fronts, by all three artists.
