Tune in for the next episode of WWOZ's School Groove on Monday, September 25 at noon as students from the mighty Edna Karr High School Brass Band join host Murf Reeves on our airwaves.
Edna Karr is located in the heart of Algiers and has serviced students in the New Orleans area since 1964, first as a junior high school through 1990; then as a junior-senior high magnet school; and now as an open-access high school with grades nine through twelve.
Led by Chris Herrero, the Edna Karr Brass Band will come to 'OZ after a strong showing in the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation's 2017 'Class Got Brass' competition. The group placed fourth against many competitors.
Tune in, sit back, and get excited about our city's musical future - it's bright!
And in the meantime, check out some highlights from their last appearance at WWOZ below.
