New Orleans has a long and storied history of female musicians. One of the relatively recent additions to the city's current fantastic female jazz vocalist lineup, Sarah Peterson of the Smoking Time Jazz Club, sat down to chat about what it was like for her first coming to New Orleans in 2003 and becoming a performer here, how that differed from her experiences in other places, and how the rich culture of New Orleans, past and present, continues to influence her and other jazz vocalists today.

WWOZ is proud to support musicians like Sarah and the Smoking Time Jazz Club who are continuing the traditions of New Orleans jazz music. If you want to make sure musicians like this continue to be heard and have a radio outlet for their music in New Orleans, please consider becoming a WWOZ member!
