Best of 'OZ 2017: 'Struttin' With Some Barbecue' at Danny Barker Festival

Published on: December 2nd, 2017

Over the coming weeks, we're featuring WWOZ's top videos of 2017! This one is from back in January at the Danny Barker Festival's opening night at Snug Harbor. The song, 'Struttin' With Some Barbecue,' was first recorded by Louis Armstrong in Chicago in 1927 with his Hot Five combo. Interestingly, he didn’t write it—his then-wife and pianist, Lil Hardin, has the composer credit.

Onstage: Gregg Stafford, Kerry Lewis, Herman LeBeaux, Mari Watanabe, Bruce Brackman, Freddy Lonzo, Detroit Brooks.

Danny Barker Festival returns January 9-14, 2018.
