WWOZ hits the road: "Join The Movement" Statewide Concert Series

Published on: May 3rd, 2014

WWOZ and the Healthier Air for All Campaign (HAFA) are partnering to host six concerts around Louisiana in the Join The Movement Tour, promoting healthy smoke-free environments for Louisiana musicians and fans.

The majority of Louisianans (79%) don’t smoke. The Join the Movement Tour’s goal is to demonstrate to bar and venue owners that there is wide public support for smoke-free shows. Six venues will go smoke-free to help increase public awareness of the health dangers that smoking causes for musicians and live music lovers.

The concert series kicked off on May 20 when the Blue Nile went smoke-free for the Open Ears Concert in celebration of Sun Ra’s 100th Anniversary with a performance by Jeff Albert, James Singleton, Brad Walker, Ray Moore, Rick Trolson, Jimbo Walsh and more. Subsequent shows featured Chubby Carrier at Luna Live in Lake Charles on July 12, apa Mali at Bears on Fairfield in Shreveport on July 26, and Carol Fran and friends at the Blue Moon Saloon in Lafayette on August 15.

The remaining cites and venues are listed below.

Hammond - Benny's Place - Friday August 22 - Ellis Bignar
Baton Rouge - Spanish Moon - Saturday August 23 - West Without
