The Louisiana Association of Broadcasters today awarded WWOZ 90.7, New Orleans’ Jazz and Heritage station, the 2018 PRESTIGE AWARD for STATION OF THE YEAR-MAJOR MARKET RADIO.

"This is a tremendous honor for WWOZ," said General Manager Beth Arroyo Utterback. "The station is powered by over 100 volunteer show hosts and last year presented over 185 live music sets from our studio and festivals around the city, connecting Louisiana musicians to a global fan base." Utterback continued, "It’s gratifying that WWOZ was recognized for achievement in several areas including our WWOZ in the Schools: School Groove program which provides a platform for talented student musicians; Takin' It to the Streets, the multi-platform program celebrating Social Aid and Pleasure Club Second Line and Mardi Gras Indian parades and news; and A Closer Walk: Interactive New Orleans Music History Map, as well as our robust social media and video offerings worldwide."

The Prestige Awards are sponsored annually by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters to recognize outstanding achievements by Louisiana radio and television broadcasters. This award is presented annually to the radio station which "best exemplifies the highest standards and practices of broadcasting." The judging was based on the station’s overall achievement in the year 2017. It brings the ultimate prize, national peer recognition from members of the broadcast industry.
