Dear Listener,

This city is famous for its saxophonists, but now it looks as if we've developed a generation of iPhonists! A trio of them will perform at the Horizon Fundraiser Concert at Tipitina's French Quarter on November 19th. And I'm positive plenty of folks will hold aloft their lit-up iPhones, cigarette-lighter style, during the upcoming Voodoo Experience in homage to the magic of the moment. (Have you gotten your WWOZ VIP Voodoo Pass yet?)

But by far, IMO, the best possible musical use for your iPhone is to mash the Play button on the new WWOZ App (free in the iTunes App Store) and turn your handheld into a piece of New Orleans wherever you are. And then, if you can tear yourself away from the music on your 'OZ-ified iPhone (or computer for that matter), visit our redesigned Swamp Shop online and pick up some new 'OZ gear!

Yours in candied yams and midnight jams,

David

P.S. A huge thank-you to all the volunteers, local musicians, food donors, show hosts, overworked staff and over 1500 listeners whose pledges of all amounts made our Fall Membership Drive a great success.

And if you're thinking of getting a Brass Pass to Jazz Fest 2010, I really, REALLY urge you to get in on it NOW, since we can't guarantee that the Passes will remain at the current price. Remember: This year Brass Passes are transferrable AND there's no paper tickets AND you can enter at any public gate. Act now to go Brass!

Nous L'Avons Fait (We Did It)

With your help, our Fall Membership Drive brought in over 1500 new or renewing members — 300 more than our goal — ensuring you'll be able to continue tuning in at home, at work, or somewhere in between. When you're done high-fiving each other, check out our drive highlights page for photos of your favorite New Orleanians in action at ‘OZ's studio.

Sponsor Profile: La Divina Gelateria

La Divina Gelateria

WWOZ gives a shout out to La Divina Gelateria, our featured sponsor this month. Fun fact: La Divina Gelateria is the only place in the state of Louisiana to make gelato from scratch without pastes, powders or bases. And the company, owned by Katrina and Carmelo Turillo, certainly knows the meaning of the word "community" - everything they use is all natural, local and organic whenever possible. Head on over to one of their three locations for some delicious gelato, and enjoy WWOZ on the radio while you're there.
