Here's a video of Evan Christopher at the Little Gem in New Orleans, performing Sidney Bechet's "Blues In the Air."  Evan Christopher (clarinet), Don Vappie (guitar/bass), Joe Ashlar (keyboards), Herman LeBeaux (drums).

The great New Orleans clarinetist Sidney Bechet (1897-1959) was one of the most important jazz musicians ever, and one of the first great soloists.

In his interview, Evan Christopher demonstrates Alphonse Picou's famous clarinet "obbligato" in "High Society," performed by the Original Tuxedo Jazz Band with Oscar "Papa" Celestin. Here's a brief clip of Picou (1878-1961) performing the solo in 1959.

Alvin Batiste (1932-2007) was a jazz clarinetist, and one of the most important music educators in New Orleans. This short performance is recorded in 1997 in Isola del Liri, Italy.
