The lineup included Samantha Fish, Booker T. Jones, Cedric Burnside, Little Freddie King, Johnny Sansone, Ruthie Foster & many more. The BBQ was fire, and so was the music as we celebrated of 20 years of the musicians and culture that keep the blues alive and thriving at this amazing festival. Show Host Profile: DJ Swamp BoogieWithin days of his first visit to New Orleans in 1999, WWOZ show host DJ Swamp Boogie had an apartment in his new home city and a new radio station, 90.7 FM. "What brought me to New Orleans was New Orleans music. I was imprinted by WWOZ. The radio station and the music had a major impact on my experience here." He's joking when he says "I have to have a radio program so I can continue buying records!" He does, however, admit to being a lifelong bin diver who's amassed the amazing collection of rare R&B, blues and soul 45s--thousands of them--that are the foundation of Swamp Boogie’s program. "I’m just a nerd about music, and I love doing this. I love the freedom of being able to play music that I know people are gonna love. That’s the only job that I have, that’s the only rule, is to play great music." |

Recipe: Ivan Neville's Pain Perdu"Pain Perdu," literally "lost bread," is a version of French toast. Traditionally, it was made with old, nearly stale ("lost") bread. Ivan Neville's version is pretty much in line with most local versions of the recipe, including the use of cinnamon and confectioners sugar. By calling for 2% milk rather than whole milk or even half-and-half, this version is lighter than many. It was Neville's contribution to That Sounds Good, our collection of recipes collected from the New Orleans music community. |
