9:00am to 12:00pm
(Mid-City, New Orleans, Louisiana) On August 24th, nearing the 14th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Mid-Citizens all over the neighborhood are getting together to enhance the resiliency of Mid-City. When our neighborhood floods, we deal with trash, debris and damage. The Mid-City Collaborative is taking individual steps that will improve and prepare our neighborhood as a whole – Mid-City Katrina Service Day!
Mid-City Katrina Service Day concept is simple: everyone- individual, company, organization- do SOMETHING to contribute to Mid-City!
Led by Mid-City Block Captains, groups of neighbors on individual blocks are clearing visible debris around catch basins, picking up trash, sweeping leaves from streets and planting water-loving shrubs.
Larger scale projects will be happening simultaneously like Greenlight New Orleans installing rain barrels on neighbors' properties; Mid-City Volleyball Group cleaning up the bank of Bayou St. John; Mid-City Vineyard Church picking up trash around Sacred Heart apartments; NOLA Trash MOB executing a clean-up event along Carrollton Ave and Banks Street intersection; Department of Public Works unclogging trouble catch basins; and SOUL NOLA mulching trees along the Lafitte Greenway, with the help of Mid-City Business Association and Parks & Parkways. The Office of Neighborhood Engagement is donating clean-up supplies & Mark’s Mid-City Service Station is donating refreshments for volunteers. A lot of neighborhood love will be happening on Saturday, August 24th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, showing why Mid-City is the best neighborhood in the Crescent City!
