Creole Death & Mourning Exhibition

Thursday, October 3, 2019 - 10:00am
Hermann-Grima House
820 St. Louis St
New Orleans, LA 70112
Join us as we explore Creole mourning rituals, especially Catholic traditions, as an integral part of 19th century New Orleans. In a sincere effort to remember the departed, mourning in a Creole household was pervasive. From a coffin in the parlor to playthings in the nursery, the Hermann-Grima Historic House is decorated to explain the many customs and ceremonies surrounding death, and guests will experience this on daily guided tours for the month of October. Hermann-Grima House tours are offered Thursday-Tuesday, hourly from 10am-3pm.
