Established in 1966, HNOC builds on the collection and vision of founders Kemper and Leila Williams. HNOC produces award-winning exhibitions, public programs, books and multimedia. In keeping with the founders’ wish to make New Orleans and Gulf South history accessible to the public, admission is free. 

HNOC continues to collect rigorously, adding roughly 2,700 new items each year. Through their oral history program and many database initiatives, HNOC has compiled and digitized thousands of unique primary source materials dating from colonial Louisiana.

Upcoming Shows

10am-2pm | Community members of all ages are invited to this annual day of fun and learning, presented in partnership with Young Audiences of Louisiana (YALA)! Community Day 2026 will use music to highlight themes from HNOC’s current exhibitions. 

10am: “Hear the Revolution” drum demonstration

10:30am:YALA presents Story Time with Baba Roscoe Reddix, Jr.

11am: Organ Demonstration

11:30pm: Girls Play Trumpets Too (GPTT) under the direction of Troy Sawyer

12:30pm: YALA presents Story Time with Briceshanay Gresham

1pm: Gallery Talk with a Trailblazer featuring Dodie Smith-Simmons 

1:30pm: YALA presents Young Audiences Charter School Jazz Band
