The wonderfully talented New Orleans pianist Steve Malinowski passed away unexpectedly over the weekend. Here, a look at some of Steve's appearances at WWOZ, including a video of his performance of 'Rampart Rumba' when he came into our studios on March 14, 2016.

Born in London, England and raised in the suburbs of New York City, Steve began making a name for himself in 2012 after graduating Berklee College of Music focusing on piano performance. Since a young age he had a passion for piano and over the years added vintage keyboards to his arsenal including the Hammond Organ, Clavinet, Moog, and Wurlitzer/Rohdes.  His longest tenure was touring with European Blues artist Ana Popovic since 2013, as well as a year long stint with Brooklyn Funk Band Turkuaz. Steve relocated to New Orleans in the fall of 2013 to immerse himself culturally and play in the traditionally rich musical city, one which inspired him for many years. Upon arriving in New Orleans, he formed his own Hammond Organ Trio, Solar Strut and played frequently with many other bands in the city in addition to solo piano/duo shows.
