'5 things to know' is a weekly feature highlighting different parts of the WWOZ world that you may have missed this week, including unique WWOZ programming and video, plus New Orleans events, artists, places, features, and more. For the week ending May 13, 2016:

1) Summertime fun coming your way! Check out our comprehensive list of festivals and events in New Orleans and the surrounding areas for May-September. If we forgot anything, let us know so we can add it!

2) Two spring weekly concert series are in their final weeks and one is starting back up soon-- May 18 brings the third to last YLC Wednesday at the Square of the season with The Revivalists and ROAR! while May 19 is the fourth to last Jazz in the Park with Honey Island Swamp Band, Zion Trinity, and Darcy Malone & the Tangle. Wednesdays on the Point, Algiers' free weekly summer concert series returns June 1.

3) Divine Ladies step out this Sunday at 1p! Get the second line route sheet from Takin' It To The Streets.

4) This week's episode of New Orleans Calling features guitarist and banjoist Seva Venet, who came to New Orleans in 1999 in search of traditional jazz; finding it in places like Jackson Square and in music clubs. But he didn’t stop there – he’s also spent hundreds of hours researching the 19th century roots of early jazz, before this music was even recorded. Hear it Saturday morning at 7a or online anytime.

5) This week's new music spotlight focused on the Spirit of Fi Yi Yi & The Mandingo Warriors, a Mardi Gras Indian tribe that's been on the streets since the 1980s. Their new album, When That Morning Comes, integrates traditional and deeply spiritual Indian songs with flavors of funk, blues, and soul.

Lagniappe: 'OZ featured video of the week is Joe Lastie & the New Orleans Graduates. Check out their performance in our studio from March below.
