'5 things to know' is a weekly feature highlighting different parts of the WWOZ world that you may have missed this week, including unique WWOZ programming and video, plus New Orleans events, artists, releases, places, features, and more. For the week ending April 8, 2016:

1. It's festival season! French Quarter Fest is in full swing and we're broadcasting live from the Esplanade in the Shade Stage starting today at 2p. We'll also be there bringing the sounds of the fest to the airwaves on Saturday and Sunday from 11a-7p with sets from great local artists like Tank & the Bangas, Daria & the Hip Drops, Happy Talk, Alex McMurray, Astral Project, and more. See the most up-to-date broadcast schedule.

2. Le Petit Theatre is hosting a lesser-known aspect of French Quarter Fest-- they've got a full schedule of New Orleans music and culture films that are free and open to the public. Another great feature of the festival is the lecture series that happens inside the Old U.S. Mint. See the scheduled talks here.

3. Piano Night is less than 3 weeks away! This is WWOZ's 28th annual Piano Night, our flagship benefit event that's become a tradition among New Orleans music lovers and loyal fans all over the world. Check out the artist feature on this year's headliner Monty Alexander.

4. Single Ladies second line rolls this Sunday at 1p. Check out Takin' It To The Streets for route sheet.

5. This week's new music spotlight focused on Anders Osborne's new release, Spacedust & Ocean Views, a beautiful Americana collection that features special guest vocalist Rickie Lee Jones, among others.
