The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation is offering up to three fellowships to support researchers who want to either use or contribute to their extensive archival materials. Applications are open now. The deadline to apply is January 15, 2016.

The Jazz & Heritage Archive Fellowships are intended for people who have already demonstrated a remarkable capacity to document the art and culture of Louisiana, and to present their findings in public events, publications, exhibitions and the like. Fellows will be awarded up to $5,000 to support their research at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Archive (and at other archives if necessary).

The Jazz & Heritage Archive is the repository of materials and information from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation’s various programs and activities — including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (“Jazz Fest”). These materials are made available for scholarly and other types of research. The Jazz & Heritage Archive resources should play a central role in the proposed research agenda. Fellows also are encouraged to explore other research facilities in the greater New Orleans area.

The Fellowship program has three purposes: to encourage the scholarly use of the collections in the Jazz & Heritage Archive; to support new documentation projects that produce primary resource material of lasting value for future research use in the Jazz & Heritage Archive; and to encourage scholarship regionally. Interested researchers should read the complete guidelines here, and then create a login to access the online application form here.

For more information, please contact the Jazz & Heritage Archive at 504.558.6138 or archive@jazzandheritage.org.
