August is museum month in New Orleans, which means if you're a member of one participating museum or cultural center, you and a guest can both receive free admission to any of the participating locations in August. Many are also offering membership discounts and special events.

Special events this month include Ogden After Hours, a music series that runs each Thursday from 5-8pm featuring live music and film. Jon Dee Graham performs August 6 and Marshall Ruffin performs August 13. On August 18, the museum will screen the film City of Memory, in observation of the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in partnership with the New Orleans Film Society. Eric Deaton performs August 20 and the Write Brothers perform August 27.

Friday Nights at NOMA features lectures, live music, cooking demonstrations, and art activities each Friday in August. August 14 is the biggest night of the month at NOMA as the museum stays open till midnight and hosts music from Amanda Shaw and Michot's Melody Makers, plus a film, lectures, and gallery talks.
