Mahalia Jackson
Mahalia Jackson at Newport in 1958, from the film Jazz on a Summer's Day.

In the video below, from the film Jazz on a Summer's Day (1960), the great Mahalia Jackson delivers a rousing, crowd-pleasing rendition of "Didn't It Rain". Though it was relased in 1960, the film was actually recorded in 1958, at the Neport Jazz Festival.

According to the film's Wikipedia page, in 1999, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being 'culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant'." Also appearing in the film, among many others: Thelonious Monk, Dinah Washington, Chuck Berry, Louis Armstrong, and Jack Teagarden.
