Last night (June 6, 2013), Hillel at Tulane University hosted a panel discussion: Does Progress Destroy Culture?, which tackled questions regarding how gentrification and urban and economic development impacts New Orleans culture.

The panel included musicians Ellis Marsalis and Shamarr Allen, Tulane geographer Richard Campanella, journalist Katy Reckdahl, and hotelier Michael Valentino.

You can watch a UStream recording of the panel's discussion below. It's about 1 hour and 45 minutes long. As a UStream recording, it contains a pre-roll advertisement and other advertising breaks at 15 minute intervals. You may also need to adjust the volume, depending on who's speaking.

Thanks to Robert Morris of the Uptown Messenger for recording this event. You can read Morris' summary of the event here.
