The Congo Square Stage is not the only Jazz Fest venue named after a Treme landmark: the Peoples Health Economy Hall Tent is named for Economy Hall, former home of the Economy Society, an early twentieth century mutual aid and benefit society.

Treme's Economy Hall was an early home of influential jazz pioneers. According to John McCusker, "Kid Ory and his band played there until he left New Orleans in 1919." The shifting lineups of Ory's band included a young Louis Armstrong, among other players who went on to renown.

In the 1960s, several square blocks of the Treme, including the original location of Economy Hall, were leveled to make way for Armstrong Park.
