Godfather of Washington D.C. Go-Go Chuck Brown shoots photographer Thomas Sayers Ellis.

On Saturday, December 1, 2012, I had the great pleasure to present poet, photographer, and longtime documenter of Washington DC go-go culture Thomas Sayers Ellis as a special guest on my Soul Power show. Not only did we have an in-depth discussion about go-go music, but TSE shared rare recordings from his personal collection, going back to the early 1980s. Thanks to WWOZ show host Alski, "(Un)Locking D.C. Go-Go" with Thomas Sayers Ellis and Soul Sister" is available as an archived podcast for you to enjoy.

Shout out to Thomas Sayers Ellis for such an amazing (and fun) discussion about Washington DC go-go music and culture. Click here to learn more about the good TSE and his work.

Lastly, TSE and I took the fun picture you see above at his Melanated Writers Collective reading at Cafe Treme in New Orleans on Sunday, December 2, 2012 - D.C. go-go style in 6th Ward NOLA. I love the shot because the shining light reminds me of the back of Chuck Brown's Bustin' Loose album cover!

With love and great thanks to TSE, Kelly Harris-DeBerry, Jarvis DeBerry, Alski, WWOZ, and all the amazing go-go musicians of Washington DC.
