Story by Ginny Clauss. Local bounce rapper Cheeky Blakk hit the scene when she released her first album, “Gotta Be Cheeky,” in 1994, and she has been spreading her energetic music all over this city ever since. She was recently featured on the track “Do It Again” from Galactic’s must-hear album, Ya-Ka-May, representing bounce on an album that mixes many great styles, including jazz, brass bands, and funk. She has also previously worked with the Rebirth Brass Band. Her powerful performance style was featured on their 2003 album “Venom,” proving that the unique combination of the New Orleans Brass Band sound and bounce is one worth listening to. Check them out together on June 17th. The show will most definitely be bouncing! WHAT: Rebirth Brass Band with Cheeky Blakk WHEN: Thursday, June 17, 6-8pm WHERE: Patrick F. Taylor Library at the Ogden Museum, 925 Camp St. Every Thursday night at the Ogden Museum of Southern Arts, visitors can get a taste of the music of the South with Ogden After Hours, which features live performances by Southern musicians.
