'5 things to know' is a weekly feature highlighting different parts of the WWOZ world that you may have missed this week, including unique WWOZ programming and video, plus New Orleans events, artists, places, features, and more. For 7/29-8/4:

1) Our video team released a new collection honoring legendary New Orleans pianist and composer Allen Toussaint this week. It features performances from Mr. Toussaint himself and a number of today's musicians paying tribute to the late, great songwriter at WWOZ's 2016 Piano Night, which took place in late April at the House of Blues. Artists include Marcia Ball, Joe Krown, Monty Alexander, John Papa Gros, Marty Sammon, and more. We'll be featuring many of these videos on our Facebook page in the coming days or you can watch them all now here.

2) We've got our annual Satchmo SummerFest previews happening live in our studios next week! Leroy Jones, Miss Sophie Lee, Charmaine Neville, and more will all be joining us to give listeners and viewers a taste of their upcoming Satchmo sets. We'll also hear from festival representatives to find out what's new and exciting at this year's festival honoring the legendary Louis Armstrong.

3) The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park will present two free performances and All Star Jam Sessions at the performance theatre of the old US Mint on Thursday, August 4th and Wednesday, August 17th, from 2-3p. The performances feature musicians highlighted in the book Talk That Music Talk: Passing on Brass Band Music in New Orleans the Traditional Way. Among the musicians featured in the book who will be performing on August 4th and 17th are Benny Jones, Sr., Kenny Terry, Woody Penouilh, Will Smith, Roger Lewis, Oscar Washington, Terrance Taplin, Will Hightower, Doyle Red Cooper (son of WWOZ's Tuesday morning Trad Jazz show host Leslie Cooper), and John Michael Bradford. Many older musicians will be reunited with younger musicians who they mentored through the Music for All Ages (MFAA) program developed by the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, and who had important impacts on their musical development.

4) This weekend is FestiGals 2016, New Orleans's first and only women-centric festival. It's held each summer for women to enjoy themselves, be inspired and become empowered in a safe, festive environment. Highlights include a "Stiletto Stroll" second line on Saturday, July 30 at 7:30p and a "Ladies Who Make Music" workshop featuring Germaine Bazzle, Helen Gillet, and Stephanie Jordan on Friday, July 29 at 1:15p.

5) The 'OZ featured video of the week comes from Colin Lake, 'I'm Trying To Tell You,' a fantastic song that he performed live at WWOZ late last year. This song is featured on WWOZ CD #44, a premium offered to our members only during the Spring 2016 Pledge Drive. The studio version of this song is available on Colin's latest CD, One Thing That's For Sure.
