Brass-A-Holics

The Brass-A-Holics Go-Go Brass Funk Band combines the sensibilities of a New Orleans brass band with the funk grooves of Washington, DC’s -based go-go music, adds in electric bass, guitar and a full drum kit, and throws in a set list that can range from Louis Armstrong to Journey to Lil Wayne. All this is delivered in a high-energy performance that has captured audiences (and their breath) around the world.

Trombonist Winston Turner built his chops as a member of the legendary St. Augustine High School Marching 100, Southern University’s Human Jukebox, The Pinstripes Brass Band, and, for over a dozen years, The Soul Rebels Brass Band.

In 2010, he formed the Brass-A-Holics with a vision to combine the New Orleans brass band sound with D.C. go-go, and to incorporate the 80s pop sounds he loves. He drafted fellow Soul Rebel Tannon “Fish” Williams on trumpet; the two brought their musicianship and well-honed rapport to the stage. Other members include or have included Robin Clabby, Dwayne Muhammad, Reginald Nicholas, Jay Winfield, Max Bronstein, Jason Slack, Matt Clark, Rickey Caesar, Gene Harding, and Joshua Hawkins. Notable alumni include keyboardist Keiko Komaki and bassist Elmo Price.

The band has toured from Israel to Brazil, and released three CDs and three videos, including “Word on the Street: The Live Video Album.” They are festival regulars around Louisiana and the world, and can be heard routinely in clubs along New Orleans’ Frenchmen Street.
