During her long musical career — including being a child member of The Cowsills and an essential part of The Continental Drifters — Susan Cowsill has developed into one of New Orleans’ premier roots/pop songwriters. Her sandy voice and steady guitar skills combine to create music that is enjoyed by fans of country, southern rock and Americana alike.

Cowsill has worked as a supporting singer for the likes of Dwight Twilley, Redd Kross, The Smithereens, Giant Sand, Nanci Griffith, Carlene Carter and Jules Shear, and her songs have been covered by The Bangles and Hootie & the Blowfish.

After 35 years of performing, Susan Cowsill released her first solo album, “Just Believe It,” in 2005 (Blue Corn Music), which will be remixed and rereleased by Threadhead Records of New Orleans. Cowsill’s second solo record, “Lighthouse,” (Threadhead Records), is a poetic and musical reflection upon the four years following Hurricane Katrina. One of the tracks, “Avenue of the Indians,” features longtime friend Jackson Browne.

Susan Cowsill & Friends will perform at French Quarter Festival on Sunday, April 11, at 12:45 p.m. WWOZ will broadcast the performance live from Harrah’s “Louis-Louis” Pavilion Stage.
