Yeah, You Right: Big Sam Williams

Welcome back for another edition of "Yeah, You Right!" where we play 20 Questions with some of our favorite musicians.

"Big Sam" Williams is one of the most recognizable figures in the New Orleans music scene, and his trombone sound can knock down walls. The New Orleans native and alum of the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA) is a veteran of horn-funk bands like the Soul Rebels and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

His own band, Big Sam's Funky Nation, blasts out raw, funky jazz-rock at nearly every major music festival in the Crescent City (including the upcoming Voodoo Experience), and the group frequently tours the country and the globe. BSFN was voted Best Funk Band of 2008 at the Big Easy Awards, and their most recent recording, Peace Love and Understanding, is regularly on the ‘OZ airwaves.

We snagged Sammy for a quick chat on Frenchmen Street in the Faubourg Marigny section of New Orleans, where he often blows the roof off the Blue Nile.
