In our "Yeah, You Right!" interview series, we toss 20 rapid-fire questions at some of the New Orleans music scene's brightest stars. Some of their answers will surprise you, so sit back and enjoy the ride!

This week's guest is trumpeter/composer Terence Blanchard. As a young trumpeter, Terence rose to prominence in Lionel Hampton's orchestra and soon filled Wynton Marsalis's shoes in one of the most prestigious bands in all of jazz, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.

Later on, his trumpet playing was featured on film soundtracks for Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing and Mo' Better Blues. Lee became so enamored of Terence's style that he had him compose the soundtracks for every single one of his movies after that.

Terence is now the artistic director of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, where his influence is felt by scores of students who represent the future of jazz.

Here's what Terence had to say about some of his personal tastes as we sat down with him during his recent visit to WWOZ's studios to promote his excellent new CD, Choices.
