Many New Orleanians get in shape for Carnival by attending weekly Mardi Gras Indian practices held at several clubs around town.

One of the most popular is the Unified Mardi Gras Indian Practice at Handa Wanda's, 2425 Dryades Street, every Sunday evening.

New Orleans All The Way Live

New Orleans All the Way Live is an internationally syndicated weekly radio show produced by George Ingmire highlighting the unique music, food, festivals, and culture of the Crescent City.

"Mardi Gras 2012"

To prepare for Mardi Gras 2012, we visit Blaine Kern aka Mr. Mardi Gras, sample King Cakes from two bakeries (Cake Café and Croissant D'Or), and catch up with the Phunny Phorty Phellows as they kick off Carnival season on January 6th, 2012.  The music on this week’s program includes theHot 8 Brass Band, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Cyril Neville and many more.

"Big Chief"

In this episode, we meet up with the 9th Ward Marching Band, as they get ready for Carnival. As part of a carnival retrospective, we listen to some field recordings from a Mardi Gras Indian practice in December 2005 and reunite with Victor Harris, a Mardi Gras Indian Big Chief who I interviewed 5 years ago, to talk about the resilient Spirit of Fi Yi Yi Mandingo Warrior Mardi Gras Indian Tribe.
