Jazz at Lincoln Center Celebrates the Music of Jelly Roll Morton

A full house in the Rose Theatre at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York were taken to class by Marcus Roberts and his orchestra as they played a myriad of tunes by the great Jelly Roll Morton.  Roberts is not only one of the most brilliant piano players in the world  but is also an excellent teacher of jazz at Florida State University.

Jazz Fest: It's Over

We came, we ate, we Jazz Fest-Ed! Closing out the last day of the festival was the sounds of The Neville Brothers, Bo Dollis and the Wild Magnolias and Rockin Dopsie, Jr. and the Zydeco Twisters. We ate our last bite of crawfish strudel, alligator pie, oyster bisque and mango freeze.

We thought we'd be getting rain, but aside from a little sprinkle (and misters all around the festival), the Jazz Fest was saved for another day from the Jazz Fest curse (the curse: it rains at least one day of the festival).

Day 5 at the Fairgrounds was blessed with weather that was hot but kept everyone happy and dancing. Slaking our thirst with all the delicious iced coffee and fruit over at the 'OZ Hospitality Tent.

Jazz Fest Day 4 Highlights

The only Thursday of Jazz Fest is a special day at the Fairgrounds: the hardcore Jazz Festers are out in full force, after putting on their straw hats and calling in sick to work. It's also the day that the Festival gives out tickets to school children to attend the festival, so lots of kids were out enjoying all the culture and educational experiences the Jazz Fest has to offer.
