This weekend marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the legendary New Orleans music venue The Warehouse. The first show at The Warehouse featured the Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac, and The Flock. The Dead got busted by NOPD and the event was immortalized in one of their most famous songs, 'Truckin'' ("Busted, down on Bourbon Street/Set up, like a bowling pin/Knocked down, it gets to wearin' thin / They just won’t let you be"). Another show was pieced together to raise "Bread for the Dead" and cover their legal fees but the band wouldn't return to New Orleans again until 1980.

This Friday night starting at 8pm, a former WWOZ DJ, the Duke of Tchoupitoulas, will join Black Mold to play recordings of the Grateful Dead from that very weekend. Listen live at 90.7 FM locally or online at this link
