The poetry of Federico Garcia Lorca hit home once again after seeing Soledad Barrio and Noche Flamenca at Le Petit Theatre. The guitars, the voices, the poses, the pain, they were all there in front of me, beautifully alive in the performance. Please make time to check this out. This is the real thing. Don't expect over- the-top costumes or hokey imitations. The guitarists, dancers and singers come out in contemporary clothing that help focus your attention on the music itself. For the first time in my life I heard a real cante jondo singer do it without hitting a single false note. Garcia Lorca always spoke of the "duende," the spirit of art, and that is what these amazing performers transmit with such ease. You don't want to miss it.
