Miss Sophie Lee

Miss Sophie Lee is, perhaps, the hardest-working woman on Frenchmen Street. The self-styled “Seoul Queen” is a tireless performer, composer, and band leader, as well as the proprietor of the popular Three Muses restaurant and music club. Lee’s thoughtful voice and classically trained piano pair well with her many musician friends, ranging from Aurora Nealand to the multi-talented Matt Bell. Lee defies the “trad jazz” category: her songs are inflected with reggae, funk, and soul grooves, but she is also a master of the traditional jazz form. She expresses her many-sided self expertly on her recent album, “Miss Sophie Lee: The Frenchmen Muse,” with tunes ranging from “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” to “Bread and Gravy.”
