Dale Dolese

Dale Ramon Dolese was born in New Orleans and raised on New Orleans Ninth Ward R&B and funk from an early age. His parents both from the Lower Nine, fed Dale a steady diet of Fats Domino, Oliver Morgan (“Who Shot the Lala”), Al “Carnival Time” Johnson, Dr. John, The Meters and more legends who hailed from New Orleans. Taking up the bass in his early adolescence, Dale began his musical journey playing in rock, punk and metal bands around New Orleans. (Unfortunately, Spandex may even have been a part of that journey.) Dale’s heroes include: George Porter Jr., John Paul Jones, Charles Mingus, Flea, Geezer Butler and Geddy Lee, and his band influences include: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dr. John, The Meters, and Led Zeppelin. He attended college in Cajun Country, Lafayette, Louisiana, where he began to tap into a variety of musical styles, developing his gregarious vocal and songwriting skills while fronting the bands Cats and Bones and One Hand Clapping. Dale moved to Denver in the late '90s, founding the original Funk/Jazz group Gris Gris. The outfit recorded three albums, filmed a video for HDTV, played festivals and opened for national acts. In 2004, Dale answered an unrelenting call to return to New Orleans and his roots, founding and playing with Sticky Wig in the 2000s, recording an album and touring the Gulf Coast. Dale, in recent years, has played with Mardi Gras Indian band the 79rs Gang. Dale resides in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans with his wife, 16-year-old son, 13-year-old daughter and two useless feline beasts.
