"Make Others See", a one-person exhibition of sculpture by Harriett Davis Cortez, opens 6-9 p.m., Saturday, June 11, at the Second Story Gallery in the Healing Center, 2372 St. Claude Ave. 

The show’s title comes from a quote by Edgas Degas, “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”  Cortez uses found objects and eccentric materials in her mixed media, conceptual sculpture, with the goal of creating subjective dialogs, often unique to each viewer. Her work has been shown locally at the CAC, Art Against Aids, Festival of Fins and Jonathan Ferrera and LeMieux Galleries.  It has also been part of a number of invitational and juried shows including the Viridian Gallery (New York City), Smithsonian Air and Space Museum (D.C.), Boston Beacon Gallery,  South Bend Art Museum (Indiana), and Gallery Mesa (Arizona).
