10:00am to 7:00pm
Algiers Ferry Terminal
138 Morgan St.
New Orleans, LA 70114
Parading from the Algiers Point Ferry Landing along the riverfront and into other neighborhoods from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the group will perform music much like that which will be performed in locations throughout the U.S. to South America and Africa to commemorate the day. From 12 noon to 7 p.m., the drummers and others will gather at the former Black Star Caffe, 800 Belleville Street in Old Algiers, for a program honoring Juan St. Malo, and the many Maroons who settled in neighborhoods throughout Algiers. Black Indians (Native Americans with African heritage) will also be honored. All activities are open to the public.
