Friday, June 14, 2019 - 6:30pm
Juneteenth is the oldest celebration commemorating emancipation within the United States. However, newly freed people faced a new reality of opportunities, nuances, and challenges which often required a careful negotiation of their identities, roles, and rights. Dr. Tera Hunter, Princeton University and Dr. Mary Niall Mitchell, University of New Orleans and Edward Baptist, Cornell University discuss the changes and challenges that coincided with a newly emancipated society. Registration required. Address: Loyola University, Nunemaker Auditorium 6363 St. Charles Avenue New Orleans, LA 70118
