Sylvain Society, the Young Professionals organization of the New Orleans Opera Association, is proud to host the third annual Big Wig Ball, chaired by Debby Hirsch Wood and Brian Monk. Themed “Rocky HAIRror Picture Show”, the Big Wig Ball will kick off the Mardi Gras season in style at the Opera Guild Home, 2504 Prytania St. on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Stellar local sponsors will be providing sensational music, food, drink, and fun for guests. Wigs are required upon entry, and guests are invited to wear either cocktail or costume attire. Six judges will select their favorite wig wearing guests to be crowned the “Big Wig 2019”. Our 2019 Big Wig Ball judges are Elliot Hutchinson, Kelder Summers-Jones, Traveler Broads: Kerry Maloney & Jessica Fender, Willie Mackie Jr, and last year’s winner, “Big Wig 2018” Steve Rizzo. In addition to delectable food and drink, DJ Chris Stylez will provide dance music and the Sol Booth photo booth, Elektra cosmetics will set up a Glitter Buffet, Porter Lyons will host an onsite jewelry pull, and Merry Antoinettes will make merriment. Raffle tickets are sold ahead of the event and prizes include fantastic items such as jewelry, furniture, and an afternoon at the New Orleans Opera. Since 2017, the Big Wig Ball events have raised over $15,000 to help cover programming costs for Student Night Out performances of New Orleans Opera productions at the Mahalia Jackson Theater. Performances are held the Wednesday before opening night of main stage productions. Each year the Student Night Out performances introduce over 2,000 local K-12 students to the operatic arts. Big Wig Ball tickets are $50 in advance and $75 at the door; must be 21 to enter. Sponsorship opportunities are still available with packages starting at $250. Raffle tickets $10; winners do not have to be present to win. Purchase tickets online at www.nolabigiwg.com.
