On Wednesday, April 18, 2018, The Southern Food & Beverage Museum (SoFAB) will host “A Night of Madeira” – an exclusive four-course pairing dinner at New Orleans’ most venerable restaurant, Antoine’s. The Period Dinner will feature classic dishes paired with rare Madeiras, hosted by Antoine’s Restaurant and The Rare Wine Co. – who has spearheaded Madeira’s renaissance in the United States. For more than half of the Crescent City’s 300-year history, Madeira was the most prized wine – formerly recognized in Old New Orleans as the “King of Wines.” The evening will feature a pre-dinner champagne social hour, with special guests Mannie Berk of The Rare Wine Co., who will introduce the return of New Orleans style Madeira, and Ricardo Freitas, Managing Director/Winemaker of Vinhos Barbeito in Madeira, Portugal. Following the reception, guests will enjoy a seated dinner with delectable dishes such as Alligator Bisque and Crawfish Cardinal; with each course paired with two Madeiras, the oldest of which dates from 1864. This will be a unique opportunity to revisit a time in New Orleans’ history when Madeira was the most famed wine to be paired with the city’s Creole cuisine. A special addition to the evening’s wines will be The Rare Wine Co.’s New Orleans Tricentennial Madeira, created to celebrate the city’s 300th birthday this year. The event is in support of the non-profit Southern Food & Beverage Museum, which Saveur magazine has called one of the "Five Great Museums Devoted to Food." The cost per person is $295 (all-inclusive) with proceeds going to the Southern Food & Beverage Museum. A portion of each ticket is tax-deductible.
