400 Esplanade
New Orleans, LA 70116
Join us for a special screening of First Person: The Oral History of Loren Pickford, a half hour documentary film about one of New Orleans' most accomplished musicians. Told in his own words, the oral history spans Loren Pickford's incredible music career which started in the early 60's, when he was a young musician touring the deep south with the Jackie Wilson band during the Civil Rights Movement. In the film, Loren tells stories as well about playing with legends like Chet Baker. At 72, Loren Pickford is still going strong, playing saxophone for the John Boutte band as well as headlining his own band. Following the screening, there will be a musical performance of Loren Pickford's music by pianist Peter Nu. The program, presented by Mosaic Culture Project and co sponsored by the New Orleans Jazz Museum is free and open to the public.
