The New Orleans Center for the Gulf South welcomes Fox Rich to Tulane University. Rich is a nationally-renowned speaker, Shreveport native, and author of The One that Got Away: A True Story of Personal Transformation. Facing 297 years in prison for her part in a botched robbery, she emerged from incarceration with a sense of purpose and a mission: to restore her family and to break the cycle of incarceration in Louisiana. Fox Rich is a formerly incarcerated woman, prisoner’s wife, mother of six sons, business owner, and matriarch of the Rich family, who have endured 20 years of incarceration in their lives. She speaks both nationally and abroad on subjects ranging from "love" to "politics," and her messages are filled with consciousness, courage, and conviction. Fox Rich demands her audience to consider how mass incarceration is akin to slavery, and why incarceration—like slavery—should be abolished. Rich will read excerpts from her book and discuss the criminal justice system and its effects on the family. This event will be filmed for a documentary.
