The "future site of the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park," Louis Armstrong Park is located in the Fauberg Tremé, right outside the French Quarter on North Rampart Street. Armstrong Park was created to honor New Orleans' favorite son, the great Louis Armstrong, and to preserve the site of Congo Square.

Upcoming Shows

On November 28, 1997 the Congo Square Preservation Society led the effort that resulted in the Congo Square Historic Plaque. Over the last 20 years, the Plaque has withstood Hurricane Katrina and 20 years of exposure to the elements. Thanks to the City of New Orleans Park & Parkways, the Congo Square Historic Plaque is being restored and will be unveiled at the CONGO SQUARE SACRED MARKETPLACE on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at 3pm. The Congo Square Sacred Marketplace will feature vendors with products and food from New Orleans and the African diaspora. In addition there will be Children Activities, Health Screenings, Drum & Dance Workshops, Tours of the Sculpture Garden in Armstrong Park and performances by: Bamboula 2000, Kalamu ya Salaam, the Arrowhead Brass Band, the Young Guardians of the Flame, Lucky Lou & Sess 4-5.
